HIGH PRIORITY ALLERT:

Human rights violations against LGBT persons in Brazil are on the rise!!!

The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights condemns hate-crimes perpetrated against the community of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered persons in Brazil.

And attacks against LGBT people in Brazil are on the rise.

According to data published by the Secretariat of Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic or A Secretaria dos Direitos Humanos  (SDH), 278 people were killed because of their sexual orientation or gender identity in 2011.

In 2010, according to the numbers computed by the non-profit organization Grupo Gay da Bahia (GGB), the number of LGBT homicides was 260.

The Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) of the Organization of American States  (OAS) has condemned the rising level of homophobia in Brazil for the third time this year.

Meanwhile, president Dilma Rousseff who swore to protect human and civil rights and to further the wellbeing of all Brazilian citizens while in office, remains in total silence regarding this matter.

However, not only the executive branch but also the Brazilian Congress has also not commented on the subject; nor have the president of the Brazilian Senate, nor the head of the Brazilian House of Representatives; furthermore, neither any of the presidents of the different Human Rights Commissions.

Here are some additional primary sources of information.
